The Lady Gators jumped out to a hot start and never looked back as they smashed the Chokers of Grays Harbor College on a very soggy day by the final score of 12-0 in five innings on Tuesday April 27.
In the first inning the Lady Gators batted around as they sent 12 batters to the plate while plating six runs. Green River benefited from the wildness of Grays Harbor's pitcher Katilyn Jordan, who walked four batters in the first inning.
Shortstop Alexa Park led the Gators offensively batting 2-3 with a single, triple and five runs batted in on the day. Left fielder Brittany Runsler had a solid day offensively as well going 2-3 with two singles, one stolen base and three runs batted in.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Duggan feasted on the Chokers' feeble offense as she dominated with eight strikeouts in just four innings including striking out the side in the first and second innings. Grays Harbor only managed to get two hits off of her. Freshman Kayla Evans pitched the final inning and she struck out the side while allowing only one hit.
Evans was a force offensively as she roped a ringing double in the first inning that plated a run and had a lead off single in the second inning. Duggan also had an enjoyable day at the dish going 1-1 with two walks.
With this victory the lady gators were able to keep pace with the leaders in the NWAACC west division. With a 9-7 divisional record the lady gators now sit in fourth place in the division.
The next four games for the lady gators will be against two teams that they have had success against in Highline and Centralia. Against these two teams the lady gators have a combined record of 5-1. Green River has a very real chance of moving into second place in the west if they can sweep these next four games.
