Women's Tennis Upends Bellevue
Saturday the Green River women's tennis team defeated the five time defending league champions Bellevue College 5-4 in a head to head dual match. Fueled by victories in two, three set battles in doubles, the Gators found themselves in unexpected territory going into singles play. With a 2-1 lead, the Gators top players Jodi Owen (#1 singles), Darci Idler (#2 singles), and Angie Alba (#3 singles) took the momentum and played their best tennis of the season to win their respective matches and to give them the necessary margin of victory.
The women's and men's tennis teams now prepare for the NWAACC Championships being held in Spokane this weekend, with action starting on Friday morning.
Softball Earns Berth to NWAACC Championship
With just one week left in the schedule, the Green River softball team has secured a berth to the NWAACC tournament at Delta Park in Portland May 21-23. Sitting in the fourth spot, Green River will try to move up in the standings on Tuesday when they host their final contests of the regular season against third place Centralia College at 2:00.
Baseball Splits with Tacoma
The GRCC Baseball team played three hotly contested games this weekend with league rival Tacoma CC. On Saturday the Titans edged out Green River 4-3, and 5-4 in a thrilling college doubleheader. Green River responded on Sunday behind the pitching of Cody Hebner and Nathan O'Bryan to shutout Tacoma 4-0 saving themselves from being swept on the weekend. With just four regular season games remaining, the Gators are positioned to earn a spot in the Western Region Playoffs where they will likely face Tacoma again May 22-23 to determine who will travel to the NWAACC Championships over Memorial Day weekend.
