This weekend the Green River athletic programs succeeded in highly dramatic fashion in a variety of sports. First freshman pitcher Kayla Evans gave the Green River softball program their first victory over Pierce College in over a decade which she pitched a two hitter against the top team in the West for a 7-1 victory. The Gators jumped out with a five run second inning and then Evans took control on the rubber keeping the high powered Raider offense at bay through the contest.
In Baseball, Sophomore catcher Tyler Conklin capped off a come from behind effort for the Gators when he hit the game wining shot of the wall in extra innings to aid GRCC to a sweep of Grays Harbor College 2-1 in cold, wet weather conditions on Sunday. Earlier on Saturday, Pitcher Jake Shadle dominated Pierce College 11-1 as he scattered four hits over seven innings of play.
In Women's Golf, the Gators battled the gale force winds and the competition at the Centralia Invitational to earn a one stroke victory over league rival Spokane College. The Gators trailed Spokane by one stroke after the first 18 holes, but when Annie Viola posted the low round of the day with an 82 the Gators lept over Spokane to win the tournament by one 518 to 519. Carla Martinson succeeded to win her third consecutive tournament despite struggling in the wind on Monday.
