It is clear that at this point we have all heard of Nadya Suleman. If that name doesn't ring a bell, then "the octuplet mom" should.
Suleman already had six children before she decided to have more children. She didn't know that she would have eight kids, but she was using fertility drugs and donated sperm from a man she called a friend. This friend is the same donor who Suleman used for her first six children.
She decided to have these eight kids, making her total fourteen, despite the fact that she has no clear source of income. She does not have a significant other, making her a single mother.
She has been interviewed a more than necessary amount of times on national television, and has denied the claims that she cannot care adequately for all of her children.
Suleman plans on going back to college and obtain a degree in counseling.
In an interview with Larry King, Joann Killeen, Suleman's publicist, said that Nadya "has no plans on being a welfare mom and really wants to look at every opportunity that she can to make sure she can provide financially for the 14 children she's responsible for now."
An interesting fact is that Suleman has been receiving $490 a month in food stamps.
Another one of these "opportunities" turns out to be putting up a website set up to receive donations from the public.
The problem is: if Suleman has no clear source of income, how can she afford to have a publicist and put up a website?
Yes, websites are not very expensive. But having a publicist is not a cheap expense.
On the site the viewer will find pictures of the octuplets that were just recently born and no mention of the previous six children already in Suleman's care.
She accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express Discover, PayPal, and cash. She included an address to the Killeen Furtney Group for mail-in donations, and a phone number for the group.
There is also a comment page on the site. Even though you can't read ant of the comments that have been posted, it has been reported that there have been a lot of death threats and angry phone calls sent to Suleman.
Even though Suleman's decision to have an extensive number of children can be seen as quite ignorant, these gestures are a tad extreme.
Upon hearing a woman having fourteen kids, many people were outraged. The current economic crisis, and even the crisis of overpopulation that has been devastating to many industries have made people's tolerance to this situation quite short.
The fact that Suleman has been going around give interview after interview instead of spending time with her children is a slap in the face to everyone who has been blind enough to donate to her cause.
