Few can remember what happened on the First of May

Immigration policy restrictions are under review

Hardly anyone remembers what happened May first a couple years ago, the international workers day. However, the 2006 protests and boycotts in response to the 2005 Sensenbrenner bill focusing on immigration could be vitally important throughout the month of May. Dubbed "A day without immigrants", millions of protestors filled up to 70 metropolitan streets across the nation. Downtown Los Angeles alone closed 1/3 of its businesses on this Mayday boycott. Inconclusive estimates of closures and student absences make it difficult to determine the significance the march had on the economy.
Obama plans to begin public discussion on immigration policy reform this month in an effort to address this divisive issue and balance fulfilling pledges made during the 2008 campaign with the current economic environment. It's not an issue that can continue to be unresolved. Regardless of his actions, there will be controversy, and the possibilities ought to be confronted throughout the campus.
