Campus Corner Apartments: overpriced and not enough activities

For $24.57 a day you can live at Campus Corner Apartments and be within walking distance of the college and live in a university like atmosphere, partying and all. Not only do you pay $2040 a quarter to live in a 9 x 9 bedroom, but you also get up to 3 roommates that you will either hate or become best friends with.

If this seems like a good living situation for you, then I suggest you call the leasing office and reserve your room today! CCA may have its advantages but there are some things that make living here quite simply put, ridiculous. Resident Council sponsors movie nights, with the intention of a good time, but the movie selection is just atrocious. Ping pong tables are available for rent, but who wants to play outside in thirty degree weather?

On the positive side, the management provides a cleaning service once a month, but doesn't tell you when they are coming so you cannot clean up your clutter before they arrive. If you're trying to go to bed before midnight on a school night, think twice. Although quiet hours are 10pm on school days and midnight on the weekends, most students aren't exactly thrilled about the rules.

Many residents feel that these restrictions are too strict and they should be midnight on school days and 2 on the weekends. The general consensus is that if we pay so much for rent then we should be able to stay up later and make a little extra noise.

College students and partying go hand in hand. Every weekend and even on school nights there is always something going on. We jump house to house, but mostly there are designated party houses where all the regulars go.

If the tequila Tuesdays, wine Wednesdays, Thirsty Thursdays and the regular Saturday parties areen't enough for you, then we've still got you covered. A main reason why many students want to live on campus is because of the atmosphere and myriads of different cultures that are represented.

The diversity of people, ages and races is truly the best thing about living at the apartments. You get to see different cultures interact, smell different foods wafting out of peoples' open kitchen windows and hear all the languages from around the world be spoken while walking from the laundry room back to your apartment.

Whether it's the negatives you focus on or the positive, CCA genuinely is here for the students and is proactive in changing small details for the betterment of the community of students. Now, if they could add a hot tub or a pool table, maybe the rent wouldn't seem so ridiculous compared to the square footage.

If you are paying for an apartment and not a "dorm" then why are there RA's?

I don't know why it doesn't show my name instead of showing "Anonymous" but the long response below is mine. Just for your FYI

I have read through your article for more than two times. It is quite interesting for me. First I want to say "thank you" for sharing your own experience in CCA. I value your opinion! But I might have to add some correctness into your article just for your and other readers' FYI:

1/ Even though you have to live in an apartment with "up to 3 roommates that you will either hate or become best friends with." but keep in mind that everyone can choose their own roommates. You can either transfer room to another apartment and live with other people that you like or you can request to live in the same apt with your friends who are currently in CCA or provide your personal information so CCA office can assign you with other people who have something in common with your personality.
2/ Different people different value. So, someone can consider some movies or activities are "atrocious" but other people can think in a different way.
3/ Ping pong table is available indoor or outdoor and not for rent, for borrow without paying anything instead. It's up to your decision.
4/ CCA staffs give out the notification about either health and safety inspection or cleaning services at least 3 days ahead of the events.
5/ "If you’re trying to go to bed before midnight on a school night, think twice" If you think that you can go to bed before midnight on every night in other apartments, please think twice. The quiet hours' violation is one of the most common problems in every apartment either on or off campus. I have friends who live in Seasons, Pasafino, Gentry... and they have the same situation about noise level from their neighbours. That is the bad news but the good news is in CCA you have RAs to help you handle the situation while you always have to call police in other apartments to help you take care of the noise.
6/ All residents can stay up as late as they want. CCA has never forced any one to go to bed in the certain time. You can make noise by watching TV in your room, talking with friends (not having a party and yelling with bunch of friends at midnight) but you still need to respect your roommates and your neighbours because you might want to stay up late but your roommates and your neighbours might have early class. Once again different people have different values and we need all residents to respect other residents. That how we live in CCA.
7/ Party. Once more time, residents in CCA have RA to help with parties and I myself have handled a bunch of parties since I've worked here so I'm more than happy to if people call me for parties during my duty.

Those things listed above are just few things that I want to share to everyone. I have been in CCA for more than 2 years and have worked as an RA for nearly 2 years. So, if there is anything I can help you to understand CCA better in the correct way. I'm more than happy to do it.

Sincerely,

I have some clarifications on this topic as well: the ping pong table is not only for use outside, in fact it is stored inside and available for use anywhere at CCA. Also, the CCA office is extremely flexible when it comes to finances. If it's more convenient for you to pay throughout the quarter eithe once a month or twice a month or whatever, instead of all at once, you can set up a payment plan that fits your needs. Other apartment complexes won't work with your situation and don't care if you have to wait to get your financial aid to pay for rent, so that's one way that CCA is really great for students. And the Resident Council doesn't host movie nights... not sure where you got that information. CCA might be loud at times and more expensive than other places around the school, but it is also the closest you can get to campus without sleeping in the library and everything is included in your rent (electricity, internet, cable and furniture). But my favorite part about CCA is that you get to meet people from all over the world and learn about their cultures, languages and foods. Jacqueline, you are right about noise and price, but honestly, I think it's worth it because of the experiece you can have living on campus in an international village (which is extremely unique to CCA). Thank you for your article!

While this article displays some aspects of living at CCA, I would like to add some things. I am a Resident Assisant at CCA and work to try and make students experiences better. Some benefits that you forgot to mention is that we host at least 6 FREE events for residents every month, we have a maintence crew here who will fix things in your apartment quickly, and resident council has an open meeting at least once a month where residents can come voice their concerns or suggest improvements they would like to see. Also I know I am always open to suggestions from residents about events they would like or other things I can do to improve their experience while living here. Personally I love working and living here and feel that the benefits have outwieghed the cost for me. If you have any questions about CCA or have suggestions for improvement feel free to email me at kfolk@greenriver.edu
