Music was playing, food was cooking, and people from all different ages and background were walking on the field at Auburn High School this weekend during the annual Relay for Life.

Relay for Life is held every year to try help raise money for the battle against cancer. Teams get together before the event to raise money, and end up getting placed in the "Gold" "Silver" or "Bronze" categories depending on how much money they were able to raise before the event.

During the event itself, teams and venders from different companies around the Auburn area (Cascade Orthodontics, Multicare, Jamba Juice, Valley Regional Fire Authority and Auburn parks and rec to name a few) came out to sell food and other items to raise money, walk around the track, and have fun. As part of the event, people lined the track with small, white paper bags with the name of the loved one they were helping to beat cancer, or had lost to cancer. The entire track was lined with decorated paper bags within the first hour of the event.

Locks of Love was there to take donations of hair that would be made to make wigs for cancer patients who lost their hair during therapy. Local band "Fallen Wayside" even came to perform at the event.

The actual relay events were scheduled for Saturday. Tents lined the high school field with team members who were spending the night to be up early the next morning for the events. Green River's own Bronze team was selling caramel apples and planning wheel chair races to raise money.

"This is our first year, but we were one of the fastest growing teams," said Green River staff member Mominah Khan. "We want to show support in the community. Cancer affects a lot of students at Green River. We plan on coming back next year, and our goal then is to raise $20,000."
