It is common knowledge Green River hosts a very well rounded student body and that isn't in reference to size or shape. With so many differing cultures interacting on a daily basis, of course there are a handful and more of different shows being watched on TV. So who watches what and why watch what they do?
"I like to watch It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," Scott Styer, a GRCC student, said. The show is a comedy about four friends owning a rundown bar in Philadelphia. Apparently the differing characters way of interacting make the show a catch. "The things they do keep people glued," he expresses. There is limited censoring which is an evident turn on for some students. While many shows are full of fluffy words, skating around the cuss words, this show however, lets them roll. "I haven't seen others like it!" Styer exclaimed.
Michael Batin, a student attending GRCC from the Philippines said that T.F.C (The Filipino Channel) is his favorite thing to watch. Sentimental value is a common theme with students that are away and missing home. "It keeps me close to home or informs me on what is going on," Batin explains. He added that T.F.C can help people be more open to the culture.
"High Kick through the Roof is the best sitcom ever!" GRCC student, Hye Jin Han, from Korea, said. The sitcom is very popular in Korea. Jin Han could not define the difference between another country's sitcom and her own. She did, however, explained that when she watched American sitcoms she did not like it because she could not find where to laugh.
Major League Baseball is a favorite of Ryohei Sawai, an international student from Japan. "I love to watch baseball games because I love baseball! Also I watch baseball games because it's full of excitement." Because baseball games are pretty much the same in every country they're easy to watch. "But America's baseball games are more powerful," Sawai added.
Through all the different TV shows and genres that people prefer to watch, it's a universal agreement that watching television is more fun when friends are thrown in the mix. Everyone has more fun when friends are present, whether it's to laugh in agreement with the show, or make fun of a show. Popcorn is a smart addition to any genre, with or without a group of friends.
