Valentine’s dance a smash hit

Last Friday, the cafeteria in the Lindbloom was filled with music, dancing, decorations and seniors.

It was the annual senior citizen's Valentine's Day dance, which meant good times for both students and senior alike.

"This is our seventh year putting this on" says Jamie Choe (who organized the dance this year) "The people who come to the dance come back every year and wait all year for it. It's so sweet to see them dancing together. They really enjoy it." It was, indeed, a beautiful sight to see couples who had been together for decades still being affectionate with one another.

When asked why she enjoyed the annual dance so much, senior citizen Hilvegare Carter had this to say: "We really enjoy being around the students. They are really nice to their elders, which you don't see much of anymore." There were many student volunteers at the dance helping the seniors, talking with the seniors, and even in a few instances, dancing with the seniors.

The lively, almost jazzy music at the dance was provided by the Portage Bay Big Band and gave the seniors and students upbeat music that they could move to and could be appreciated by all ages. The dance was complete with performances from Green River's stomp and Latin rhythm club.

The audience really seemed to enjoy watching the blend of talent and culture that these two clubs performed. It was a great kick off to the Valentine's day weekend that proved once again that love and romance don't have an age limit.
