Children, tweens, and parental units of all ages were on campus Saturday, April 3rd to take part in the Annual Kids Day hosted by Green River Community College (GRCC) in the Lindbloom Student Center (LSC).
Focusing on Easter type fun, children got to pet bunnies, hunt for eggs, and try out their skills in the game of limbo; they even got to have a go at a piñata and participate in a coloring contest. While the cafeteria, and unfound eggs, would spell disaster for most, the promoters came up with a wonderful solution that also fixed the whole raining problem.
Rather than search for actual eggs, children found plastic eggs throughout the cafeteria area. They then took their prized plastic findings to a table decked out with assorted candy and made a trade. Luckily, the majority of the eggs were found, and the decorations can now be re-used to save money next year.
GRCC student, Sina Fe'a, 19, was shocked to hear about Kid's day and dismayed that she never knew about the event until it was over. Fe'a thought this event would have been a great place to take her two cousins, ages 3 and 4. She also admitted that she was the type of girl who received bunny shaped toys when she was younger and would have enjoyed the event herself if it meant she got a chance to pet a real one.
If memories of Peter Cottontail and armfuls of chocolate also bring a smile, and Peeps weren't always a marshmallow war in the microwave, than make sure to keep an eye out next Easter, as this tradition won't be stopping any time soon. Volunteering for events similar to this is also an option; please see the Student Life office of the LSC for more information on how to volunteer at GRCC.
