On April 9th, students of Green River demonstrated that people who want and can make a change aren't just located in the fanciest places of California, nor are they picketing for some cause in New York City. They are right here on our campus.

These students worked in different ways; some organized and hosted a charity event and others took the first step to participate in a conference aimed to educate and empower students of all different shades of skin color.

The Godfather charity took place in the Glacier room and proceeds went towards the new immigrant scholarship that has become available on campus. In this room, attendees watched the movie Godfather, starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino.

Though, as most people who attended this event got there early, they also got to watch some YouTube videos, such as November Rain by Guns & Roses and even grab some pizza that the organizers provided.

For the students hoping to attend the 20th Student of Color Conference in Yakima, the due date to turn in nomination and recommendation papers was due this day. This workshop doesn't just aim to education and empower its attendees; it hopes to work as a support system for the students of Washington.

And, if you are wondering if "white is a color", according to Jhon Valencia, Director of the Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, it is in fact a color.
