Friends, family and coworkers all gathered last Thursday at the campus corner apartments for the laid-back Café Night event. Most of the event comprised of a small concert with touring singer/songwriters Andrew Belle and Allen Stone.
Jamie Choe, the special events coordinator, and part of the Community Leadership Education and Outreach Program known as CLEO, organized Café Night. She explained that the main goal behind café night "was to introduce the campus to new artists and to give those artists an opportunity to show what they love to do." These artists are picked at the beginning of the year and usually it is an annual event.

The main event was the concert from Andrew Belle and Allen Stone. Both artists arrived just before their performance time from their previous concert in Spokane. "My music has been all over the place, we've been getting some radio stuff lately...it's been in T.V. shows like 90210, the Real World, Keeping up with the Kardashians, and Ghost Whisperer" Belle voiced. He also mentioned that his music was used for the show One Tree Hill on February 22. Belle's album The Ladder is available on iTunes.

Café Night lasted from 7pm till 9:30 pm and was jam-packed. Every chair was filled and many ended up just sitting on the ground or standing. Snacks and drinks were available for everyone for free. In fact the whole event was free, except for those who bought the albums or shirts from Belle and Stone. Anyone who bought these albums could also have it signed by each artist.

Kaylee Folk, another member of CLEO, had a positive experience from Café Night. She really liked how close they were to the musicians during the concert. When compared to another concert she said "it's a lot more personal because you get to see emotions and reactions to what they are singing, which is really cool, better than being really far up in the Tacoma dome". Her favorite part was "when Allen sang last to speak" because she said it felt like it really "hit home for me".

As the night closed Belle and Stone almost sold out of albums and shirts, and had to bring even more for the eager public. Café Night was definitely a success bringing recognition for the new artists and fun to the campus.
