2010 is set to be the biggest year the Ninendo Wii has had since its launch in 2006. At Nintendo's media summit back in February, Nintendo showcased every high-profile game coming out in the first half of this year.
With the years' halfway mark only three months away, it's time to take out the Nintendo Wii from closets and get ready for an onslaught of new games. Here's a list of games to look out for:
Monster Hunter Tri (April 20): Another franchise that is loved in Japan, Monster Hunter Tri is Capcom's next installment in a series usually on the Sony Playstation Portable. Tri has you playing as a monster hunter as you go around hunting monsters.
The game gives you the option of playing online with up to three friends with the game; letting you hunt monsters together. This feature -which costs money in Japan- will be free to all American copies of the game.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (May 23): Mario Galaxy 2 is a follow up to the first Mario Galaxy from 2007. This time, however, Nintendo's mascot character is accompanied by Yoshi -Mario's green dinosaur friend and ride-able companion. Mario Galaxy will once again feature vibrant worlds to explore with top-notch gameplay making the game a must purchase for Nintendo fans.
Sin and Punishment: Star Successor (June 7): Sin and Punishment 2 is the sequel to the Nintendo 64 classic. Despite never being released in North America on the 64, Sin and Punishment found global success as a downloadable title on Wii.
Sin and Punishment is a three-dimensional rail-shooter developed by Treasure. Rail shooters are games where the character moves in a pre-determined direction (like a roller-coaster on rails), leaving the player to deal with shooting enemies and other obstacles. Sin and Punishment 2 will feature online high-score records which will challenge players to figure out the best way to get through each of the game's levels.
Metroid: Other M (June 27): Metoid: Other M is a direct sequel to the Super Nintendo classic: Super Metroid. Player will once again control the bounty hunter, Samus Aran as she saves the galaxy from space pirates.
Other M's gameplay features unique two-dimensional side-scrolling as well as first-person shooting. The game is being developed by Team Ninja, the creators of the Ninja Gaiden franchise on Xbox 360 and PS3. Other M will also be the first time that Samus, normally a silent protagonist, will be speaking in a game; giving the new Metroid a new, more narrative-based style.
These games are merely the major titles with adamant release dates. Nintendo Summit also announced Disney's Guilty Party; A game similar to Clue with Pixar-style graphics. Disney also has a game due in September featuring it's mascot character in Warren Spector's "Epic Mickey".
Rumors are also abuzz about a new Wii game in the Legend of Zelda franchise going to be announced at this years Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June. E3 is also going to feature Nintendo's newest handheld console: the 3DS. Look forward to these games and more in the coming months.
