Whether you're an avid philosophy buff, or you think its all rubbish, the best way to state your opinion on the matter is to join Green River's official philosophy club.

Veritas, the name of the club, is from Latin, which means "truth." It started in fall 2008 when five students really wanted a place to discuss issues or topics about philosophy. While the club started with a mere five, their numbers have grown to almost twenty-five since becoming officially instated.

Ty Barnes, a favorite philosophy instructor of students who helped organize Veritas, believes that there are two important advantages people can get by studying philosophy, "If we study philosophy or at least try to know about it, it helps us engage self-discovery and examine our belief." Also, he pointed out, "Besides, we can not only get the answers of our questioning but also exchange other's thinking."

For those interested but aren't familiar with philosophy, Ty said, "As we know, philosophy is considered difficult and boring to study, but that is not because it is difficult or non-understandable, but because people who get those feelings didn't have enough guidelines, and their study was not enough." He also said, "The ordinary ways of speaking and commonsense of language should be prepared in advance to get into the field of the philosophy."

Students not interested in joining Veritas that would like to discuss philosophy online can go to www.sites.google.com/site/grphilosophyclub.com or www.veritasphilosophy.ning.com. Barnes is very passionate about his subject, and encourages all students to join in on the discussions, he is so excited about this group that, "I can't wait until next Wednesday."
