Life Transitions Helps Students

Mandy Wong

Life Transition Program is a free non-credit class which is hosted by the Green River Community College Women's Program. This class is open to Green River students and the community. Since the class has already started this quarter, people who are interested in taking it must sign up for next quarter. The next class will start in April.

This class mainly focuses on going through divorce, grieving the loss of a spouse or partner, dealing with unemployment, and preparing to go to workforce or study in college.

Women's Program Manger, Marsha Medgard says, "This class aims at people who have been married for more than 10 years but recently have experienced divorce, widow, and separate with the spouse. This class is also teaching people how to get back to work force and school."

This free class can help you learn to identify your strengths, ideal occupation, build self-esteem, and get the support you need.

"This class was instrumental in giving me the motivation I needed to move forward with my life," a former student said.

The emphasis of the Life Transitions Program includes renewing self-confidence in your abilities, increasing communication and decision-making skills, deciding if you need further education and training to get a job, learning ways to present your skills to prospective employers, identifying your strengths, and finding a career that fits.

Medgard mentions this class will help people get started, she says, "It's like a continuing education class."

On the other hand, does this class require students to buy books and notes? Medgard says no, that, "People will get materials during the class."

Next quarter's class has not yet been scheduled, so the Women's Program will announce the event later. For more information, please contact Women's Program at (253)833-9111 ext. 2547.
