For many students, being part of a club is an amazing experience. At Green River Community College (GRCC), entrepreneurs can actually create their very own club in just a few steps.
The first step is filling out the forms found in the student programs office on the top floor of the Lindbloom Student Center (LSC).
According to Natasha Graves, Clubs and Organization Coordinator at GRCC, students need fill out five forms to be an official club. The first form is called the sign up form; students need at least ten members to be a club. The second form is called the adviser agreement form meaning students need a teacher or staff member to be the club adviser. The third form is the officer information from, requiring the club to choose who will be an officer. Students then need to fill out the club recognition form which requires personal information of all club members. The final form students need is the club constitution which is about the basic information on being club.
The next step is called checking. Graves said, "Once students fill all the forms, I will give those forms to the Chief Justice [Cassius Butcher] and Student Government."
This step proceeds to take about two days. In the first day, the Judicial Committee will decide whether it passes or not. If the club is not passed by the Judicial Committee, then students can make changes to their application and then proceed with the Judicial Committee to pass their club.
If the club is passed then there is only one more step remaining before becoming an official club of Green River Community College. Student Government will present the club at their senate meetings on Wednesdays from 12-1 p.m. in the Rainer Room of the LSC. If the club passes there, a second meeting will be held on Thursday at the same time and place. One representative from the club must attend the meeting; it's mandatory.
The final step is sitting down with the club officer and adviser to hear about rules of regulation about being a GRCC official club. As soon as the student and all the authorized people finish signing the papers, a new official club is created.
For some students the process to become an official club might be too much to complete, but there are other ways, however. Students don't have to be an official club of GRCC, but can be an unofficial club, just without all the benefits. Official clubs are provided $500 when the club is created.
