A campaign meeting was held at the Enumclaw GRCC campus for candidates running in the upcoming elections. GRCC student president Mae Cubing organized the event, while Jim Hutchinson from Puget Sound Energy moderated it.
The informational meeting gave candidates a chance to share with the community their campaign ideas. Speakers included the mayor of Enumclaw John Wise and his opponent Liz Reynolds, school board member Cathy Dalquist, position 7 candidate Sean Krebs, and Bob Rosenberger running for King County assessor.
Already mayor for 8 years, John Wise believes in supporting our veterans as well as putting a stop to domestic violence. He is a big supporter in saving the King County Fair and has succeeded in helping save the fair along with the help of fellow council member Reagan Dunn. Wise supports all businesses including big businesses such as Starbucks and claims, “Starbucks pays for our businesses.”
Liz Reynolds says she also supports big businesses and claims to be a strong partner with the business community and wants to create an economic team and have people “rethink how we do business.” Reynolds is also a strong supporter of our core services such as the police and fire departments. She plans to reduce wasteful spending in which she needs community involvement.
Cathy Dalquist is running unopposed for the Enumclaw school board. Dalquists’ top priority is the education of our youth, and her goal is to have professional learning communities (PLC’s) for students. These PLC’s enable students to have extra help when needed.
King County Assessor candidate Bob Rosenberger is dedicated to trying to divide the tax bill so everyone pays their fair share, and believes it is time for a tax exemption review. (For more information on Bob Rosenberger, go to BobRosenberger.com)
Other candidates running for office this year are council woman and position 9 candidate Beverly Harison Tonda, council man Reagan Dunn, position 7 candidate Sean Krebs, and Tom Albaro candidate for the Port of Seattle. Dow Constentine, who couldn’t make it to the meeting, was represented by Chris Hersh.
All the candidates at Thursday’s council meeting had very good points and ideas of how to improve King county. Be sure to cast your vote if you would like to see a change in your community.
