After a disappointing 3-5 start to the Gator’s Men’s Basketball team, the New Year seems to have brought Green River new life.

Green River’s Men’s Basketball team began 2010 playing just a day after the start of the New Year against Grays Harbor. The Gators 69-52 victory was led by Jake Wilcox and his 16 points. Wilcox also went an impressive 12 for 17 at the free throw line leading the Gators to their first conference victory of the New Year.
Just four days later, the Gators hit the road to take on the number four team, Tacoma. Wilcox, once again, came up big for the resurging Gators by scoring a career high 33 points, and going 12 for 14 on free throws; in route to the 82-71 road victory. Wilcox also went 3 for 3 from three point range.
Freshman guard, Murkice Carter, led the Gators on defense with five rebounds and a blocked shot, while still managing to tack on nine points on the offensive side of the ball.
When asked about the recent success by the Gators, Coach Tim Malroy said, “Our success is born out of hard work and preparation.  Our players are very talented in their own right but they also are not shy about doing the work necessary to win games.”
“Our defense should keep us close in most games, and when we execute on offense we are a pretty good team,” he added.
The Gators recently lost an OT thriller to Centralia with a finishing score of 72-74; Freshman Chris Plooy led the team with 30 points. Just four days later, the Gators bounced back with a dominating fifteen point win over the league rival, Highline Community College.
The Gators play tonight at South Puget Sound at 5p.m..
