Annual Fall Fling another smash hit for students

The annual Fall Fling occurred on September 30th this year, featuring several booths, free snacks, a barbeque, music, and games.

The Philosophy Club booth was a popular attraction, where students learned to challenge their minds by pondering the mysteries of life. Member Kayla Campbell promoted the club, adorned in a sheet-toga, saying the club “gives you an opportunity to look into things that in your day-to-day life you don’t get to explore.”

Next to the musician’s stage was KGRG-1’s booth. KGRG-1 is Green River’s AM station, and any student can sign up to take the class, where students learn how to talk on the radio, make podcasts, and earn money.

The Puget Sound Blood Services issued a blood drive during the Fling, giving students a chance to donate and save lives between classes.

Diversity is one of Green River’s best qualities, and is expressed through clubs like The Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) and Dance Connection. The GSA is a very active organization where students develop connections without boundaries based on sexuality, and Dance Connection is a group for students who want to learn a broad variety of dance, accepting those of different ages, different experience levels, different backgrounds, and different cultures. “Even if you don’t speak the same language, you can share and enjoy dance,” said Advisor Frances Lindland.

During the Fling, Vicci Martinez performed an acoustic show, playing “mellow and smooth” music for students as they enjoyed inflatable games like ‘The Wrecking Ball’ and the ‘Boxing Ring.’ Such games make appearances for many of Green River’s events, and the games tend to be harder to play than they look. “At first, two of us didn’t even stand up,” said Gina Helms after trying out The Wrecking Ball. “You look at the platforms and they look stable, but they’re not. I had to hold onto the pillar.”
