SAMANTHA SHOCKLEY

Hello everyone, my name is Samantha Shockley! I've been attending GRCC since Fall Quarter in 2008 and am finally, it seems, graduating this spring with my AA. I took my first journalism class ever at Green River, it was an online News Writing class that taught me how to write articles like features, news and profile stories. Through that experience I gained the knowledge that I might want to pursue the Journalism field. Last spring, 2009, I signed up for the laboratory class that allowed me to write for The Current, I wrote mostly feature stories, and found that this was not only my strong point, but also something that I loved to do, portray stories with emotion, make people laugh, cry, and think about what they are reading.

Through that expericence, I was asked to stay on as the Feature Editor, a new section devoted to the stories I love to write. I've been the editor for a year now and am sad to leave everything that I have become so much involved in. There have been all nighters just to put out an issue on time, and early mornings trying to get everything organized before class, fights and laughs, but it's all been a blast. Next year I will be attending PLU in Tacoma, and while I'm not sure where I'll go from there, I know that my experiences at The Current will follow me everywhere I go.
