The Current

Kelli Wyatt

Hello! I'm Kelli Wyatt, and I'm the Satire & Comics Editor for The Current student newspaper. Lesser known, I'm also the ad creator for companies who wish to advertise with The Current but don't have an ad ready for print.

I've been attending Green River Community College for nearly two years, now - since Fall Quarter 2008. I enrolled in the newspaper class my third quarter at GRCC, Spring Quarter 2009. I started by writing news articles, and after two very successful articles, found my way into satire, where I wrote an additional two articles to finish out the quarter. At the end, students were asked if they were interested in filling positions as Editors for the newspaper staff, and - obviously - I was interested. I originally thought I was going to become News Editor, but the editor at the time was still occupying his position, and I accepted the roll of Satire & Comics Editor. I've been in this position since last Spring.

Where I am is truly a challenge - the struggle for constant creativity is sometimes difficult, and my struggles are shared in different forms among all members of The Current staff. My position allows quite a bit more freedom than other sections of the paper. Naturally, this has its pros and its cons, and it is certainly interesting and helps me grow as a person to have this kind of responsibility.

I plan on studying at Green River for another year before I move out and up into the university level. I'm not yet certain of where I will transfer to, but I'm thinking UW (although I'm not a huge fan of purple and gold as a color combination) will be my final choice. Eventually I plan to move to Japan to teach English (at what level, I'm uncertain), so my major will most likely be Japanese / Asian Studies with a minor in English. Who knows, perhaps I will persue ad design or journalism instead?
