The Current was established in 1965

The Current as a print medium has undergone numerous reinventions from a modest newsletter to the present broadsheet fammilliar to students and staff at Green River Community College. To keep pace with a changing industry, The Current is revealing itself as a reinvisioned production with the addition of this website and the change of a traditional newspaper to a newsmagazine format. Policies

Editorial Policy

The Current is a limited public forum for student expression, in which student editors make policy and content decisions. Green River Community College delegates editorial responsibility for the content of the publications. The college acknowledges the dual free purpose of student publications as instructional tools and as vehicles for free inquiry and free expression in the academic community.

Letters to the editor

We encourage all students and staff to have their voices heard. The Current will publish letters to the editor, provided they are signed, include the author’s name, and submitted in a timely manner. Letters should be no longer than 500 words. Letters should be sent to thecurrent@greenriver. 4 comments

Hey! My name is Nicole Swapp. This is my second year at Green River and I have been working for The Current since Fall of 2005. I guess you could say I am on the four year plan. In Fall of 2005 I came to Green River fresh out of high school and jumped right into a Features Editor position.

Hey! I’m Lindsey, the managing editor/advertising manager of The Current for 09-10. I’ve been at GRCC for almost 2 years now, planning my graduation party for December of 10. I started out on the paper as a reporter back in winter of last year, and ended up staying to become campus editor over the summer.

I’m Remco, 17, a Dutchman and currently Managing Editor for The Current. I moved to America on 09/09/09 and enrolled in my first classes in Fall quarter 2009. One of the classes I took that quarter was the newspaper because at the time my major was journalism and I heard good things about it from another Dutch student who was here last year.

I'm Mary, and I'm the news section editor. This is currently my second year here at GRCC as a running start student. After I receive my AA degree this June, I'll be transferring down to Stockton, California (A.K.A. the middle of nowhere) to attend the University of the Pacific.

Hey! I'm Stirling Radliff. This is my... somethingth... year at Green River. I don't remember. Anyway, I've been working for the paper since Winter of 2009. I started as a - more or less - "beat" for the OpEd section under Justin Runquist, my predecessor.

Hello everyone, my name is Samantha Shockley! I've been attending GRCC since Fall Quarter in 2008 and am finally, it seems, graduating this spring with my AA. I took my first journalism class ever at Green River, it was an online News Writing class that taught me how to write articles like features, news and profile stories.

My name is Andrew Honea and I am currently in my 2nd year at Green River Community College. I am a graduate of Tahoma High School, but lived in Georgia until my junior year. I became involved with the paper during fall quarter 2008, and have stayed involved ever since.

Bonjour! Je m'apelle Jean-Pierre Garcia. I tend to introduce myself in french each quarter since I've started as an assisting editor for The Current Winter 2009. I myself am only the tiniest bit French-Canadian. The name is french though, so I try to prep people on pronunciation.

Hello! I'm Kelli Wyatt, and I'm the Satire & Comics Editor for The Current student newspaper. Lesser known, I'm also the ad creator for companies who wish to advertise with The Current but don't have an ad ready for print. I've been attending Green River Community College for nearly two years, now - since Fall Quarter 2008.
